The Virtue of Observing More Nafil Fasts During Muharram

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be satisfied with him) stated:

“The Messenger of Allah (peace and gifts of Allah arrive) stated: ‘The best of fasting after Ramadhan is fasting Allah’s long stretch of Muharram.’ “

The expression “Allah’s month”, associating the name of the month to the name of Allah in a genitive linguistic structure, connotes the significance of the month. Al-Qari stated: “The clear significance is the greater part of the long stretch of Muharram.” But it was demonstrated that the Prophet (peace and favors of Allah arrive) never fasted any entire month separated from Ramadhan, so this hadith is likely intended to energize expanding one’s fasting amid Muharram, without implying that one should quick for the whole month.

He stated, ‘What is this?’ They stated, ‘This is a honest day, it is the day when Allah spared the Children of Israel from their adversaries, so Musa fasted on this day.’ He stated, ‘We have more appropriate to Musa than you,’ so he fasted on that day and ordered [the Muslims] to quick on that day.” [Reported by al-Bukhari, 1865] “This is an equitable day” – in a report described by Muslim, [the Jews said:] “This is an incredible day, on which Allah spared Musa and his kin, and suffocated Pharaoh and his kin.” “Musa fasted on this day” – a report described by Muslim includes: ” … in thanksgiving to Allah, so we quick on this day.” According to a report described by al-Bukhari: ” … so we quick on this day to love it.” A variant described by Imam Ahmad includes: “This is the day on which the Ark settled on Mount Judi, so Nuh fasted this day in thanksgiving,” and “summoned [the Muslims] to quick on that day” – as indicated by another report additionally described by al-Bukhari: “He said to his Companions: ‘You have more ideal to Musa than they do, so quick on that day.’ “
